A Call to Remember the Sabbath-
Abba's Intention...Man's Deception

Man’s Deception
But man distorted the gift.
-
Religious distortion: Leaders buried Sabbath under layers of rules, turning freedom into burden.
-
Political distortion: Kings and councils shifted calendars, not to honor God, but to consolidate power. The rhythm was intentionally broken.
-
Cultural distortion: Empires and economies convinced humanity that endless striving was survival — that our worth is measured by production. Pharaoh’s voice still echoes: “Work harder. Make more bricks.”
And so Sabbath was forgotten. Abba’s blessing became man’s burden. A holy invitation was twisted into either lifeless legalism or careless neglect.
Note on Numbering:
Different faith traditions number the Ten Commandments slightly differently. In this series, I’m following the Protestant/Evangelical order, where the Sabbath is the Fourth Commandment. (Catholic and Lutheran traditions combine “no other gods” + “no idols,” which makes the Sabbath the Third Commandment.)
🌿 Abba’s Intention
Before there was Israel, before Sinai, before law or covenant, there was Eden. Six days of creation, and then God Himself stopped, blessed the seventh day, and made it holy (Gen. 2:2–3).
The Sabbath was not born for one people group. It was given for all mankind — a rhythm of rest written into creation itself. A weekly reminder: “You are Mine. You are not sustained by your labor. You are sustained by Me.”
For slaves just freed from Egypt, this command was revolutionary. Pharaoh demanded bricks without straw. Yahweh demanded rest without fear. Sabbath was a declaration of freedom: “We are no longer slaves. We belong to the God who provides.”
Abba’s intention was never legalism. It was love. A sacred pause to breathe, remember, and enjoy His presence. His voice still calls:
“My child, do you hear My whisper in your weariness?
Come away. Stop striving. Rest in Me.
The world will not applaud your rest — but I delight in it.
The Sabbath is not chains; it is wings.
Not restriction, but renewal.
A day to taste eternity and remember who you are.”

The Invitation Today
But the Father’s heart hasn’t changed. Sabbath was always meant to remind us that we are not slaves. We are children.
In Christ, we find the true Sabbath rest (Heb. 4:9–10). He is the fulfillment — the end of striving, the rest for our souls. But the rhythm still matters. One day in seven, holy and set apart, is an anchor for weary hearts in a restless world.
To reject Sabbath is to bow to the tyrant of self.
To embrace Sabbath is to step back into Abba’s arms.
A Call from Abba
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Not because you must.
Because you were always meant to be free.
Stop. Rest. Delight in Me.
I am your rest. I am your portion.
You are Mine.”

“The Sabbath was born as blessing, stolen as burden, and buried by deception — yet it still waits, unbroken. Will you ignore the gift of God, or dare to remember what man tried to erase?”
