Unwrapping Truth: A Return to What Is Holy
December is a month wrapped in lights, noise, and tradition… but not all traditions carry truth. For many of us, the story of this season was handed down through culture long before it was weighed against Scripture. We inherited practices, dates, symbols, and celebrations that feel “Christian,” yet have roots that the early believers would have never recognized or better yet even accepted.
This month is not about attacking what others cherish. It’s about unwrapping truth. It’s about peeling back the layers of history, culture, and compromise to see what God actually established… and what the world added later. From the very first pages of Scripture, God warned His people not to mix His worship with the traditions of the nations. Yet through time, misunderstanding, and the influence of empire, the pure devotion of the early church slowly blended with pagan customs, until the truth became hard to see through the decorations.
December will be different here. This month, we will walk slowly, verse by verse, through the story of how truth was given,
how it was lost, and how we can return to it without fear, shame, or confusion.
We will rediscover the rhythm the first believers kept a rhythm of covenant, purity, expectation, and hope. We will remember that the arrival of the Messiah is sacred… but the traditions that grew around it were never part of God’s story.
If your heart is hungry for truth, if you’ve ever felt the quiet tug that something about this season feels off, if you want to worship God the way He asked to be worshiped. I welcome you here, you are not alone. You are stepping into a month of clarity, peace, and realignment.
Welcome to Unwrapping December.
A journey back to what is holy.
A journey back to what is true.
WEEK 1 (Dec 1–Dec 7) — God Sets the Pattern / Satan Imitates It
Truth established → Counterfeits introduced → Why it matters today
- Dec 1 — Genesis 1:3 - Truth begins with “Let there be light” — not a winter sun festival.
- Dec 2 — Deuteronomy 12:29–32 - Do not worship the LORD the way the nations worship their gods.
- Dec 3 — Exodus 34:14 - “For the LORD… is a jealous God.” God guards His worship.
- Dec 4 — Jeremiah 10:2–4 - Explicit Scripture forbidding pagan tree rituals adopted by nations.
- Dec 5 — Leviticus 18:3–4 - “Do not follow their customs.” God draws a hard line.
- Dec 6 — Isaiah 5:20 - Woe to those who mix darkness with light.
- Dec 7 — 2 Corinthians 6:17 - “Come out from among them and be separate.”
This first week establishes: God sets the pattern → the enemy counterfeits → God says don’t blend them.
WEEK 2 (Dec 8–Dec 14) — Israel’s Drift: Blending God + Pagan Culture
How God’s people repeatedly lost the truth — same way we do now.
- Dec 8 — 2 Kings 17:15 - They followed worthless idols and became worthless.
- Dec 9 — Amos 5:21–23 - God rejects worship that mimics the culture.
- Dec 10 — Ezekiel 22:26 - “They made no distinction between holy and common.”
- Dec 11 — Hosea 4:6 - My people perish for lack of knowledge.
- Dec 12 — Isaiah 29:13 - They honor Me with their lips, but hearts are far.
- Dec 13 — Ezekiel 14:6 - “Turn from your idols and renounce your detestable practices.”
- Dec 14 — Malachi 3:6 - God does not change — His standards haven’t shifted.
This week shows where the drift happens and why modern Christians miss the mark.
WEEK 3 (Dec 15–Dec 21) — The Early Church: The True Traditions
Before Rome rewrote the calendar and merged Christianity with pagan festivals.
- Dec 15 — Acts 2:42 - The apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, prayer — the real traditions.
- Dec 16 — Acts 17:30 - God commands all to repent of former ignorance.
- Dec 17 — Romans 12:2 - Do not conform to the patterns of this world.
- Dec 18 — Ephesians 5:11 - Expose the works of darkness — don’t participate.
- Dec 19 — Galatians 4:8–10 - Paul rebukes returning to pagan festival calendars.
- Dec 20 — 1 Thessalonians 5:22 - Avoid every appearance of evil.
- Dec 21 — John 4:23–24 - True worshipers worship in spirit and truth — not in inherited customs.
This week re-establishes what the early church actually practiced, not the hybrid church of Rome.
WEEK 4 (Dec 22–Dec 24) — The True Arrival of Messiah
Remove the pagan layers → reveal the pure miracle.
- Dec 22 — Micah 5:2 - Prophecy of where Messiah would be born.
- Dec 23 — Luke 2:8 - Shepherds in the fields — proof it wasn’t winter.
- Dec 24 — John 1:14 - “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The true miracle.
This final week reveals: The birth of Jesus matters — even if the date doesn’t.
What matters is truth, not tradition layered with paganism.
I hope you join me this month as we learn together the origin of Christmas, how the Church allowed it to be butchered and how we can get back to the heart of worship.
