Over the next several weeks, we’re diving straight into the heart of the Law—tracing its roots, its meaning, and how time, culture, and human comfort have reshaped what was once bold and burning into something soft and safe. Together, we’ll uncover the historical and cultural layers that reveal how the Gospel we follow today often drifts far from its original fire.

When God gave the Ten Commandments, He wasn’t writing a list of restrictions — He was speaking vows. In Hebrew, they’re not called “commandments” but Aseret haDibrot — the Ten Words. They read like the promises exchanged in a marriage covenant, not the rules of a tyrant.

The chapter atheists love to mock and many Christians quietly skip. For centuries, these verses have been wielded as a weapon to shame women, brand them as “unclean,” and push them to the margins of faith communities.

As we step into the first full week of this blog, I want to lay some framework for where we’re heading.

Every project has a story behind it. For me, the Survival Field Manual wasn’t created because I was afraid of what’s happening in the world. It was born out of love—specifically, my love for my husband and my desire to help him grow closer to God.

Life has a way of feeling like a cycle, doesn’t it? We experience moments of joy, then seasons of heartbreak. Times of clarity, then times of confusion. Sometimes it feels like we’re running in circles—but what if those circles were actually leading us somewhere?

Welcome, friend.
This Spotify playlist is a snapshot of my real music life. It’s not curated to be “perfect,” it’s simply my current liked list—everything from familiar Christian radio songs, to Scripture memory music, to unique genres most people don’t even realize exist. God’s creativity is endless, and so are the ways His people worship. Not everything is on Air1, and that’s a good thing.
I want you to know—this playlist is also community-shaped. My daughter adds songs, and I’ve opened it up for the youth at church to drop in their favorite Christian artists. That means it’s diverse, alive, and sometimes surprising.
Now, I’ll be honest: there may be a few tracks where the lyrics aren’t squeaky-clean. Some artists use words or expressions that don’t glorify God. But here’s my heart—I didn’t filter them out. God met me in the dope house, and maybe He met you in a place you’d rather not admit out loud. He meets us where we are.
So if you come across a song that rubs you wrong, I ask your forgiveness. Look past the rough edges and let the heart of the music remind you of the God who meets us in unexpected places.

What can you expect from this blog? Honestly… I’m still figuring that out right alongside you. Two months ago, I never would have guessed I’d be here writing posts and sharing my heart with the world. So yes, I’m new at this, and I’m asking for your grace as I stumble forward.
One thing I do know is this: the Verse of the Day will always be at the center. That’s where this whole journey began. Each verse sends me chasing after context, culture, and deeper meaning—and it helps me untangle my own words so that God’s truth comes through more clearly.
But this space won’t stop there. My studies often turn into treasure hunts, and I can’t wait to share those gems of wisdom with you. You’ll also probably catch glimpses of my big, blended family, our homesteading adventures, the ongoing saga of fixing up an old house, and the everyday chaos that makes life real.
At the end of the day, my hope is simple: that you’ll walk away from this space encouraged, blessed, and reminded of the incredible grace and love of our Father. If you leave here with a little more wisdom, a little more hope, and maybe even a smile at the chaos—I’ll consider that a win.
